We're delighted to announce that Owen Elliot has been promoted to Quantity Surveyor, based at our Cornwall office in Liskeard.
Owen's journey with Champion Groundworks began in August 2019, when he joined us straight from school after completing a week's work experience. It didn't take long for him to impress the team with his enthusiasm, willingness to learn and strong work ethic, and he soon started his career with us as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
From the outset, Owen immersed himself in the commercial side of the business, shadowing our experienced Quantity Surveying team and developing the knowledge and skills needed to build a successful career.
Rather than following a traditional office-only route, Owen also gained invaluable first-hand experience on site. After two years in the commercial team, he spent around eight months working alongside our operational teams on live projects during the winter months, giving him a practical understanding of how our groundworks are delivered. He then spent a further four months working with our Engineering team alongside Brad, learning more about the technical and planning aspects that underpin every successful project.
That experience has given Owen a well-rounded understanding of our business, allowing him to appreciate the commercial, operational and engineering challenges involved in delivering high-quality groundworks.
In October 2024, Owen progressed to the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor, where he continued to develop his commercial responsibilities and took on increasingly complex projects. His hard work, commitment and continued development have now earned him a well-deserved promotion to Quantity Surveyor.
As Owen's experience has grown, so has the scale and complexity of the projects he's responsible for. He's now playing a key role in supporting some of our larger developments across Cornwall, helping ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially and to the high standards our clients expect.
Owen's progression is a great example of the opportunities available at Champion Groundworks. We believe in investing in our people, providing them with practical experience across every part of the business and supporting them to build long-term careers within the construction industry.
