Follow our latest head office trainee

Find out more about how Joshua Andrew is getting on in his new 'Traineeship' at our head office in Liskeard.

We were delighted to recently share that Joshua Andrew completed his Level 2 Groundworks Apprenticeship with us and in order to help support his long-term career aspirations, we agreed for him to join our busy head-office team in Liskeard on a 9-month traineeship starting on 5th January 2026.

Following the successful completion of his Apprenticeship, Josh expressed an interest in learning more about Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying as potential areas that he'd like to work towards in the future - so we wanted to give him the opportunity to experience work within these areas first-hand, in order to help him hone his focus for the future.

As part of his 'traineeship' Joshua will spend 4-8 weeks working in each of our key departments, including within our team of extremely experienced Civil Engineers and Quantity Surveyors, and by September time we're hopeful that Joshua will have decided on the path he'd like to pursue and we very much hope to be able to continue to support his developing career within construction for the long-run.

We checked in with Josh to find out how his first couple of weeks in his new role have been:

What has your first week or so looked like?
My first couple of weeks have been great so far. I’ve been working within the Quantity Surveying team, where I’ll be based until the end of February. I’ve been settling into the new office environment and have spent a lot of time learning new computer systems, attending meetings (including one with a client), and carrying out site visits. It’s been very busy!

What has been the thing you’ve enjoyed the most so far in your new role?
I’ve honestly enjoyed everything so far, but my confidence is definitely growing when it comes to using measurement software such as Bluebeam. Owen (Assistant Quantity Surveyor) has been teaching me how to use it, and it’s been really satisfying to make progress, especially as computers have never been my strongest suit.

How has the transition been from an ‘on the tools’ job to an office-based role?
The transition has been great so far. It definitely feels like a luxury not being out in the elements all day, especially at this time of year, but I’m already appreciating just how hard the office teams work. Everyone is extremely busy, working to tight deadlines, keeping projects on track, and supporting the wider workforce.

Have there been any challenges you weren’t expecting in your new role so far?
Not really. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect coming into the role, so it was a little nerve-racking at first, but the team around me have been incredibly supportive. They’ve been more than happy to answer the many questions I have each day, all with the aim of building my knowledge and confidence.

We're excited to catch up with Josh again soon in the not-too-distant future to find out more about how he's getting on.

Best of luck with the new role Josh!
