Welcoming our latest head-office trainee
We’re delighted to welcome Sam Pearson, who recently joined our Liskeard head office team as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
After completing his A-levels at Devonport High School, Sam initially considered a career in finance. However, when a role at Champion became available, he decided that quantity surveying offered the varied and practical career he was looking for—and jumped at the opportunity.
Sam already had some experience of the construction industry, having previously worked as a labourer for a groundworks company. Although he enjoyed the people, the banter and working outdoors (yes, this was during the summer!), he knew that a hands-on site role wasn’t quite the right long-term path for him.
Since joining Champion, Sam has particularly enjoyed visiting our sites, meeting different members of the team and seeing the wide variety of projects we deliver. He has also found it fascinating to learn how each element of a project is costed and understand the detail that goes on behind the scenes.
Starting a new and highly technical career without much previous experience has naturally presented a learning curve, but Sam has embraced the challenge. Usually, our Trainee Quantity Surveyors spend a year or so learning the role alongside our experienced team before committing to an HNC, giving them time to make sure it’s the right path for them.
Sam, however, has been keen to get started from day one and has already begun his two-year HNC in Digital Innovation and Construction at City College!
We’re pleased to have Sam on board and look forward to supporting him as he builds his knowledge, develops his career and becomes an important part of Team Champion.
